Aged 6-14

Swish has a number of different class options and venues to choose from (a full list of classes can be downloaded opposite). Students may choose one or more classes in Drama, Various styles of Dancing or Singing for 1 hour each, or a combined Musical Theatre Session which covers all 3 disciplines for 3 hours on a Saturday.

Drama

Drama classes focus on voice work, correct breathing, characterisation, accents, physical theatre, mime, improvisation, both film and stage training, script work, sight reading, emotional responses, the two main styles of acting - Stanivslaski and Brecht techniques and much, much more besides The hour long classes focus on a different area of acting every week and are divided up into a warm up, introduction and training in the chosen topic, followed by practical experimentation both individually and in small groups. The highly structured classes are a firm foundation for not just acting, but are paramount in teaching life skills from powerful and clear speech to strong poise and confidence in everyday situations.

Singing

Although Singing tuition is primarily focused on musical theatre songs and techniques, children will also study a wide range of styles from classical to pop as this enables them to fully understand their voice and how it can be used in a variety of different ways. Harmony work within groups is essential in training children to understand the mechanics behind music and how they can work together to create a professional sound. Breathing, voice projection, diaphragmatic support, tone placement, vibrato and dynamics are just some of the areas worked on in order to create accomplished singers at Swish.

Jazz

Jazz classes form the basis of technique for modern and musical theatre styles. Apart from musical theatre sessions, students can also take Jazz as an extra option. The techniques and routines learnt will enable the student to excel in shows and auditions.

Ballet

The foundation of all dance is derived from the poise, technique and strength that lies at the core of Ballet. Classes will give students a strong foundation in the art enabling them to perform with grace and finesse.

Street

The most recent addition to dance styles has got to be Street. Look funky, impress your friends and learn the routines that have made this style the latest trend. Classes, although fun, have style and technique at the heart and teachers strive to acheive exactness and enthusiasm from all students.

Musical Theatre

Our popular Musical Theatre Sessions are 3 hours long and pupils will study all aspects that are mentioned in our drama, dance and singing classes. By incorporating all of the disciplines into one session, pupils are able to work intensively in all areas and transfer skills learnt in each class. These classes are recommended to those pupils who enjoy all aspects of performing and are willing to work at fast pace. These classes are primarily Musical Theatre based and pupils get the chance to showcase their work twice a year.

Junior Dance Troupe

Following an invite or audition, Students will be able to join our Junior Dance Troupe. They compete at competitions and festivals as well as making television appearances. Regular attendance is demanded as well as commitment to the various events and shows.

Junior Ensemble

Similar to the Dance Troupe, the Junior Ensemble is essentially a show choir which performs at festivals, competitions and events. Unlike the Troupe, they do not meet throughout the year and are usually formed via auditions for the Summer Term only. Full details are released annually outlining the required commitments.
