Aged 15+
We have two types of classes available for pupils of this age in all aspects of drama , dance and singing – standard and advanced. Standard classes are for those pupils who wish to attend classes for enjoyment and fun. Advanced classes are for those pupils who wish to either study acting, dancing, singing or musical theatre at theatre school or university.
Drama
Drama classes focus on voice work, correct breathing, characterisation, accents, physical theatre, mime, improvisation, both film and stage training, script work, sight reading, emotional responses, the two main styles of acting - Stanivslaski and Brecht techniques and much, much more besides The hour long classes are often workshop based and within the advanced classes pupils will be fully prepared for audition for drama schools
Singing
Although Singing tuition is primarily focused on musical theatre songs and techniques, children will also study a wide range of styles from classical to pop as this enables them to fully understand their voice and how it can be used in a variety of different ways. Harmony work within groups is essential in training children to understand the mechanics behind music and how they can work together to create a professional sound. Breathing, voice projection, diaphragmatic support, tone placement, vibrato and dynamics are just some of the areas worked on in order to create accomplished singers at Swish.
Jazz
Within these classes pupils can perfect their technique in all areas in preparation for auditions for theatre school. Style is also taught in classes for those pupils who are less technically able to gain confidence within this area, which enables them to present themselves well in auditions. We also run open classes for this age group where different styles are taught and choreographies from West End shows and theatre school auditions are learnt.
Street
Despite the new Street style being a great medium for all abilities to be able to look strong and rhythmic without lots of technique, it essential that all dancers are trained correctly in this discipline. Boundless enthusiasm and a strong desire to input 110% of your energy are a must!
Senior Dance Troupe
NEW this year and already having starred as part of the Children in Need celebrations in their very own 2 minute Live television slot, the Dance Troupe is for those students whose strengths lie in any style of dance. A combination of Ballet, Street and Jazz is used so that the troupe can compete and perform regularly. The group meets every Monday from 7.30pm - 8.30pm.
Senior Ensemble
Swish's Senior Ensemble are an audition only group that have seen huge success both locally and nationally. From Youth Choir of the year through to runner up in Channel 5's Don't Stop Believing, we have gainied unrivalled success. Students who show natural flair and promise will be invited to become part of the group. The group meets every Wednesday from 8.30pm - 10pm.
